Friends of Salusbury School raises a significant amount of money every year to go towards making our school the best it can be. This is done with the help of so many parents, carers, teachers, local businesses and probably more people than we can thank and name here. If you want to be involved in organising, deciding how the money raised is spent and participating in events you can come along to the monthly Friends meetings.
If you want to be even more involved you can also become part of the Friends committee (current members listed below). Every year we hold our AGM in October/November and all positions are up for election. Everyone can run for a position and we really encourage new friends and faces. You can always shadow a role for a year if you don’t want to commit straight away or can’t decide. Below are also brief descriptions of each position. Being part of the committee is a great way to become part of the school, getting to know other parents and teachers, and also to make a real difference to your child’s school experience.
Chair: Main duties include chairing monthly meetings, to co-ordinate the running of Friends events, liaising closely with Headteacher to ensure Friends working in harmony with the school and to welcome and involve all parents / carers. This is the most demanding of all the roles, but also the most rewarding.
Vice-Chair: To assist Chair in all activities and chairing meetings in Chair’s absence. Ensuring all events are run smoothly and are fully staffed with volunteers.
Treasurer: Responsibility for balancing books, giving regular financial updates, costing events, counting and banking monies raised, No need to be a qualified accountant but good understanding of finance required.
Secretary: Take minutes of all monthly meetings and the distribution to all Friends. To help Chair and all committee members in the smooth running and communication of events to the rest of the school through website/noticeboards/flyers etc.
Class Rep Organiser: Ensures that all classes have a class rep and keeps a record of who they are and to keep them informed of all events and requests from Friends. Also ensures smooth communication with the school and help with volunteers.
Greenspace Rep: Main responsibilities include organising monthly dig days, working with the school and our gardener to agree priorities and future developments, keeping the Greenspace section of the website up to date and ensuring our lovely garden is being used to its full potential. The Greenspace Rep is also part of the Greenspace Committee.
Salusbury World Rep: Friends works very closely with Salusbury World and this position is the link between the two to ensure that both Friends and Salusbury World are kept up to date of each other’s activity.
If any of the roles interest you email [email protected] or talk to one of the current committee members.
